Bahamas. In January, the country’s major crime problems prompted Prime Minister Perry Christie to step up the so-called war on crime. Leading opposition politicians demanded, among other things, that the death penalty be imposed and enforced more often.  Bahamas population in 2020 is estimated at 393,255. The Bahamas is one of the countries in the region that has the highest number of murders per year. One of those murdered in 2014 was Prime Minister Press Secretary Latore Mackey, who was found shot in the head in his car in August.

According to topb2bwebsites, during the autumn, new rules were introduced for foreign nationals living in the Bahamas, which means, among other things, that everyone with foreign citizenship must have a passport issued in their home country. The new rules were criticized by, among others, Amnesty International, which warned that minors with foreign parents will be adversely affected. Above all, this applies to people with roots in Haiti who have difficulties in obtaining a passport. Amnesty also reported arbitrary arrests of immigrants targeting mainly Haitians.
