Saint Christopher and Nevis. In January, it was announced that Saint Christopher and Nevis had submitted an application for membership in ALBA, a partner organization for Latin American and Caribbean countries.
The same month, Venezuela’s embassy in the capital Basseterre burned to the ground. The OAS (Organization of American States) headquarters also burned but escaped more serious damage. Two people were arrested on suspicion of arson.
According to Countryaah.com, Saint Kitts & Nevis population in 2020 is estimated at 53,210. The controversy surrounding the distrustful vote against the government that the opposition has been trying to push through since the end of 2012 continued throughout the year. The matter was referred back to the Supreme Court in October.
In parallel, the government and Prime Minister Denzil Douglas pushed to change the boundary between constituencies before the next parliamentary elections, something the opposition opposes. In July, the Supreme Court ruled that the proposal, as a specially appointed commission, submitted missing value due to lack of evidence.
Saint Christopher and Nevis were given a permanent diplomatic mission in Cuba in June after Prime Minister Douglas inaugurated the new embassy during a visit to the Cuban capital Havana.
