Bahrain is a small island nation situated in the Arabian Gulf, connected to Saudi Arabia by the King Fahd Causeway. The capital and largest city is Manama. Bahrain operates as a constitutional monarchy, with King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa serving as the hereditary monarch since 1999. The country has a bicameral legislature, with the elected Council of Representatives and the appointed Shura Council.
